Common Questions asked on my cartoons

Why do you do cartoons?

I do cartoons because I feel my sense of humor is good.  Not because I am a good artist. 

So you are not a good artist?

I didn't mean that. What I meant was humor is more important than artwork in cartoons.  This is my feeling. 

You earlier said that drawing comic art is better than drawing cartoons for kids. What is the reason? Why?

See, comic art encompasses all aspects of drawing.  Facial features,  figure drawing,  proportions, extreme perspective,  clothes, colors, light and shadows. While a cartoon art need not be even proportional. That's the reason why I advocate comics over cartoons for kids.

What is the secret to drawing a great cartoon?

Treatment of clothes as a separate entity. And Treatment of face, hands, legs as a separate entity. This is not my secret. But a secret passed on by Lou Darvas,  famous American cartoonist of yesteryears.

I see that you work only over blogs and do cartoons.  You don't actually try and get into magazines,  newspapers or e-books. Is it that you are scared of something?

I refuse to answer this question. 

Very well. Why do you use papers and pencils.  Why not drawing tablet?

I am comfortable drawing in paper. I have desires for setting up an art studio. For that I have to spend 5 lakhs of Indian rupees. I don't want to spend that amount of money right now. So I am continuing in paper.

Whose drawing do you think your art resembles?

A few friends say my drawings resemble Van Gogh . Gosh !! I can't believe it.

You must. Today the competition is for coloring and shades and light and shadows.  Not resemblance. 

Is it moral to use above mentioned aids?

Should we be making steel by smithy route? Ask this question to yourself. 

Should a kid get into funny cartoons?

No. A kid should get into comics. Not funny cartoons.  Because trying to be funny is for aged people. 

What is the advise for watercolor,  oil, acrylic , crayons and pastels ?

I have no advice to give. As I am of pencils. 

Should I buy 120 colored pencils set or 12 colored pencils set?

It is tough to answer. Colors can be mixed. Perhaps 12 colors can be combined to give 120 colors.  Try teaching your kids cross hatching or cosine hatching with red (available in 12 colored set) and draw an apple. Observe whether he is more into gradience or more into color combinations.  Then decide.

Is it okay for kid to draw from imagination?

It is best a kid draws what is in front of him. However our education system is not like that. So you decide.

I have tried shadows in a systematic way for the first time in this colored portrait.  Shadows in right neck, chin and nose areas. I have gained more confidence now.

My art objectives

I am thankful to internet community for Crayola skin colored pencils sets. These are most suitable to me. I now have the pencils which are the most suitable to my drawings. 

The portraits are coming out fine. But not quite.  Here is what I mean.

DaVinci was a master artist and in his Mona Lisa painting , the dark becomes lighter and the lighter becomes dark. Both. ( Winston  Churchill said "The skirts go up and the pants come down"). This is an important necessity and the masters did their drawings admirably.

While in my portraits the darker becomes lighter to a professional level but the lighter does not reach towards dark. (Only the pants come down. The skirts don't go up. Ha!! Ha !! Ha!!)

I will be working on it. And I  shall master this aspect too, to a professional level. I will strategizing on this challenge. 

Above is one thing I will be doing.  And of course the practices for comic drawing; I am doing them. The left hand, mirrored left hand, 3D modeling app images at different perspectives and the humans at different perspectives. And their inking.
